Projects, partners, homeowners, and stakeholders recognized for their impact on the green economy in our communities
In recognition of their commitment to the green economy and demonstrated leadership in their industries and communities in 2023, the Connecticut Green Bank announced the honorees of its ninth annual awards. The awards recognize key partners in the dedicated network of contractors, developers, lenders, community leaders, and home and building owners.
Thanks to projects and partnerships like these, the Green Bank has helped create more than 27,000 job years and reduce energy cost burdens for more than 68,000 families, businesses, and nonprofits since 2011.

Chair's and President's Awards
In their first six years, Sustainable CT inspired more than $3.8 million in community-led sustainability projects through the Community Match Fund and celebrated certification of more than 70 towns while supporting the efforts of 131 municipalities.

Sustainable CT and its funding partners, including Common Sense Fund, Hampshire Foundation, and Emily Hall Tremaine Foundation, received the first award from the Green Bank Chair for their contributions to community-led sustainability projects.

Lynn Stoddard, the first executive director of Sustainable CT, received the first award from the Green Bank President as she prepared to retire after helping build the organization’s impact across Connecticut communities.

Building Solutions Awards
The Solar Marketplace Assistance Program (Solar MAP) gives towns and cities tools, resources, and guidance to develop solar projects for their properties and finance them with the Green Bank Solar PPA.

2023 C-PACE Outstanding Project
Solar project at Meadow Ridge
Working with Verogy, the leadership at Redding Life Care used solar at the Meadow Ridge senior care facility in Redding to capture economic and environmental benefits. The 732.48 kW system is estimated to save more than $3.5 million over the project’s useful life.

Solar and energy efficiency project at Enko Chem
At its Mystic headquarters, Enko Chem used C-PACE financing to install energy-efficient lighting in offices, labs, and greenhouses, upgrade HVAC, and add a solar system anticipated to save nearly $3 million over 15 years. Earthlight Technologies and Siemens helped complete the projects.

2023 Outstanding Partner for Solar MAP
The Town of Manchester
Manchester became one of the first towns to benefit from Solar MAP. Solar systems at seven municipal sites, including six schools, are projected to save more than $100,000 annually and more than $2 million over the term of the solar power purchase agreements.

The Town of Groton
Groton used Solar MAP to bring solar to two newly constructed schools. The proactive installation of more than 440 kW of solar is projected to save the municipality $770,000 over the power purchase agreement.

Earthlight Technologies is recognized as a Top Performer for integrating C-PACE into its business model and developing excellent projects, including one of this year’s outstanding projects.

AEC Solar
West Haven-based AEC Solar is an outstanding partner in C-PACE financing and has brought many new and repeat properties to C-PACE for funding, with more projects slated in the future.

Facility Solutions Group
Oxford-based Facility Solutions Group continues incorporating C-PACE financing and other Green Bank commercial financing products into its sales process, resulting in a steady stream of qualified projects, especially with nonprofits and schools.

ESC, a Fidelity company based in West Hartford, has a long history in integrated building controls. With solar and EV charging in its product portfolio, ESC has brought excellent projects to C-PACE for solar financing.

Smart Roofs Solar
Monroe-based Smart Roofs Solar closed its first C-PACE project in 2018 and recently closed its 32nd, working with Green Bank commercial financing products and taking on challenging opportunities.

Jodi French is recognized for her uncommon role in the C-PACE market, identifying qualified properties, introducing owners to contractors and C-PACE financing, and guiding projects to closing and completion.

C-TEC Solar
Bloomfield-based C-TEC Solar has been a Green Bank partner for more than 10 years, demonstrating technical expertise and leadership capacity to deliver quality, cost-effective service. The company has also helped replace outdated residential solar production meters.

Raise Green
Through a partnership with Raise Green, the Green Bank has issued nine successful Green Liberty Note offerings, raising more than $2 million from citizens in Connecticut and beyond. Notes are offered in increments of $100, making the green economy more accessible.

PosiGen and M&T Bank have been instrumental partners in reducing energy burdens for underserved communities. Together with the Green Bank, they have offered affordable and predictable energy prices to more than 4,000 homeowners in Connecticut.

Green Bank and Skyview Ventures have worked together over the past five years to deploy solar PV projects across the state with competitive power purchase agreements for municipalities, schools, condominiums, and commercial buildings.

CorePlus Credit Union
One of the original Smart-E lenders, CorePlus Credit Union continues to serve contractors and homeowners in eastern Connecticut. In 2023, CorePlus agreed to increase the maximum loan amount to $50,000 and loan maturities to 20 years.

Nutmeg State Financial Credit Union
Nutmeg State Financial Credit Union has helped hundreds of families make their homes more comfortable and energy efficient through Smart-E. In 2023, NSFCU also increased its maximum loan amount to $50,000 with loan maturities to 20 years.

Fuel Cell Energy with Liberty Bank and Amalgamated Bank
Danbury-based Fuel Cell Energy owns and operates a 7.4 MW fuel cell park at the Naval Submarine Base. Financed with loan funds from Liberty Bank, Amalgamated Bank, and the Green Bank, the project provides grid resiliency and micro-grid-ready clean energy.

In 2021, the Green Bank mission expanded beyond energy into environmental infrastructure, including climate adaptation and resiliency, parks and recreation, waste and recycling, water, and land conservation. These are the first projects recognized under the new charge.

Hartford ParkScore - Blue Hills Civic Association and Trust for Public Land
In 2023, BHCA and Trust for Public Land completed a park assessment project for Hartford, conducted by paid youth interns in BHCA’s Summer Youth Employment Program. The project adapted the ParkScore Index to Hartford by gathering key park metrics.

Bridgeport Communities LEAP - Greater Bridgeport Community Enterprises
After Bridgeport was selected for the U.S. Department of Energy Communities LEAP program, the Bridgeport Regional Energy Partnership coordinated community-led clean energy planning. Greater Bridgeport Community Enterprises is helping convene, interpret, research, and document community opportunities.

Energy Storage Solutions Top Performers
Launched in 2022 and co-administered by the Green Bank, Eversource, and UI, Energy Storage Solutions incentivizes customers to install batteries in homes and businesses. The program helps customers increase resilience during outages and provides benefits to the grid and all ratepayers.

Smart-E Loan Top Performers
For 2023, the Green Bank is recognizing Smart-E Loan Top Performers based on the services they provide or their overall growth in the program. These Top Performers helped more than 400 families across Connecticut make home energy improvements, allowing them to save money, reduce their carbon footprint, and live more comfortably in their homes.
Since 2013, the Smart-E loan has allowed more than 7,500 families to save a projected $93 million in lifetime energy costs.
